Aronia is a low maintenance small-medium sized mounding native shrub that produces small, dark purple to black fruit. It's known for its tart, astringent flavour and more recently championed for its superfood quality. The berries are often too sour to eat raw but are commonly used in juices, jams, and baked goods. For sweeter fruit, leave on the stem until colder weather hits. Chokeberry turns beautiful vibrant red in the fall with pretty white flowers in the spring. Great for mixed borders.
